“I wouldn’t worry so. He won’t see it.”

CJ drew back and gasped loudly wondering how on earth the large crimson bruise which bloomed proudly at the base of her throat would go unnoticed by anybody but particularly The President.

“Abbey…I ... I wasn’t thinking.”

“I know. I’m glad.”

CJ felt Abbey’s smile grow as she laid her head back on her shoulder. Allowing herself to smile too, she gently traced her commemoration with two fingertips. A few breaths later her fingers were being coated by cool whispered words.

“He won’t notice. Ostriches never do. That’s what sand is for.”
